1. The Journey to Freedom

If you’ve ever tried to quit smoking, you know how impossible it can feel.

Maybe you’ve promised yourself “this is the last one” more times than you can count. Maybe you’ve prayed about it, only to smoke again a few hours later. I’ve been there too.

I wanted to quit, but I just couldn’t. Every failed attempt left me more anxious, defeated, and convinced it was impossible. What I didn’t realize then was that God already had a plan. He knew exactly how and when I would be set free.

This is the story of how He helped me stop smoking for good, and how He can help you too.

2. My Story: From Addiction to Conviction

When I first got saved, I didn’t feel convicted to quit smoking right away. In fact, I didn’t really have any idea about what being a Christian meant.

Then, slowly but surely, God began to change my heart. The more I got to know Him, the more convicted I felt. I learned that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. And I was destroying it.

Not only that, but I also wanted Jesus to be my everything. Yet, this addiction was holding me back. I was trying to serve two masters.

Deep down, I didn’t even want to smoke. But giving up smoking seemed like an impossible feat. It was something that I always wanted to do, but I had tried many times in the past and completely failed.

I knew God wanted me to stop. But, how? How was I supposed to do this?

3. God’s Timing and Provision

Previous experience showed me that I could not quit smoking on my own.

I didn’t know anything about surrender at the time, but I decided that if it was going to happen, God was gonna have to perform a miracle. And I was ready to let Him.

Then the answer fell into my lap.

One day, I came across a YouTube video. A woman was talking about how easy it was to quit smoking. The word “easy” immediately grabbed my attention, because nothing about quitting had ever felt easy to me. She mentioned a book: Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking.

I looked it up, and the testimonies blew me away. Person after person said the same thing: it really was easy. I decided to buy it.

The first thing that I liked about the book was that the author encourages you to keep smoking while you read it.

What a relief!

I still didn’t feel ready to let go and that took some of the pressure off. Looking back, I know God led me to that resource at just the right time.

4. The Turning Point

As I neared the end of the book, I started dragging my feet. I knew the moment was coming when I would have to stop, and I was scared. That’s when God gave me a dream.

In the dream, He showed me what could happen if I kept going down the same path. He showed me the danger of staying in the addiction.

It was terrifying, but it was exactly what I needed. The next day, I picked up the book, finished it, and then through the vape (and other smoking paraphernalia) into the trash.

It was over.

5. My Experience After Quitting

I won’t lie to you. I did experience withdrawals. But here’s the miracle: it was nothing like before.

In the past, I had full-blown panic attacks every time I tried to quit. This time, I felt calm. My stress levels actually went down. My anxiety decreased.

And in the end, everyone was right, it was easy!

It was as if God had lifted the weight off my shoulders. For years, I believed I’d never be able to quit without losing my mind, but God proved me wrong. He gave me peace where there used to be panic.

It was really easy because God was my strength. He was with me through the whole process.

6. How God Can Help You Too

If you’re a Christian struggling with smoking, I want you to know two things:

  1. You are not alone. God sees you, loves you, and knows your struggle.
  2. With Him, it is possible. What feels impossible in your own strength becomes possible through Christ.

Here are some Scriptures that carried me through:

I really do recommend reading The Easy Way to Stop Smoking because it helped me so much.

But more importantly, lean on God every step of the way. He is your strength when you feel weak.

7. Final Encouragement

Quitting smoking was something I thought I could never do. But God made a way. He gave me the tools, the strength, and the courage to finally let go.

And He will do the same for you.

Friend, don’t give up. Take it one step at a time. Surrender your addiction to God, lean on Him, and trust that He will carry you through. What He did for me, He can do for you too.
