From Blank Pages to a Record of God’s Faithfulness

Have you ever bought a beautiful new notebook, full of good intentions, only to abandon it after a few days? I’ve been there more times than I can count. But when I gave my life to Christ, something changed. My journaling stopped being about keeping a record of my days and started being about keeping a record of my walk with God.

As a child, I loved the idea of keeping a journal, but I could never keep it going. I’d write a page or two, tuck it away, and forget about it. Then, years later, I’d find it, rip out the old pages, and try again… only to give up once more.

But after I became a Christian, journaling took on a new meaning. I began writing down verses, my prayers, and the little moments when God spoke to me or taught me something. Without even realizing it, I had created a lovely, messy record of my journey with Him. My first journal was one dedicated entirely to the Lord.

Keeping a journal as a Christian has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. Here are some of the benefits of journaling your walk with God:

1. You’ll see how much you’ve grown in Christ

Looking back at old entries can be eye-opening. You’ll see how your faith has deepened, how your habits have changed, and how God has been at work in your life, especially in ways you didn’t notice at the time.  You’ll be reminded of so many things that you would have otherwise forgotten.

It’s like reading the love story between you and God.

2. You’ll be reminded of answered prayers

A journal becomes a written testimony of God’s faithfulness. Reading past prayers and seeing how God answered them can fill you with gratitude and strengthen your trust in Him. Not only does it show His faithfulness, but it can fill you with hope for all those prayers that have not yet been answered.

You may even find that your desires have changed. Or that there are some prayers He never answered. But maybe you’re happy He didn’t, because the plan He has for you is so much better.

3. It brings you closer to God

Writing out your thoughts and prayers helps you process them deeply. It slows you down, helps you listen for His voice, and keeps your focus on Him. This practice can bring hope and peace even in the middle of a difficult season.

If you’re someone who struggles to sit silently and meditate on the Lord, this could be a great alternative for you. It’s quality time with God.

4. It supports your mental and spiritual health

Journaling can be a way to release worries, work through emotions, and remind yourself of God’s promises. It’s both spiritually grounding and mentally refreshing. Sometimes I feel that putting my fears down on paper is like a physical representation of laying them down at the Lord’s feet.

It’s an act of surrender.

A Love Story Written by You with God

Your journal doesn’t have to be perfect or pretty. God isn’t looking for flawless handwriting or beautifully crafted sentences. He’s looking at your heart.

Whether you write a sentence a day, rewrite a verse from the Bible, or fill pages at a time, a journal dedicated to your walk with the Lord will be something you’ll be glad you started.

So, grab a notebook, open it up, and let your heart speak to the Lord. You might be surprised by how much He speaks back.

Let me know if you do! ❤
