Into His Wonderful Light

I wasn’t at rock bottom when I turned to God. I had hit rock bottom multiple times and I survived. In fact, I was comfortable at rock bottom. Eventually, I would get myself out. I didn’t need anyone else’s help.

One place I lived in for years was depression. The only thing that kept me alive was my family. If I was gone, they would be in the same pain that I was feeling.

So, I endured and self-medicated. I turned to all the things that I shouldn’t have turned to. Anything to numb the pain for a moment.

I overcame the worst of it, but I was still in a constant state of fight or flight mode. Always anxious, and on the verge of panic.

I continued to turn to disastrous and worldly things to get me through life. I did not realize how much darkness I was still in.

I could not imagine a future and I did not want to. I became addicted to cigarettes and attached to alcohol. My kindness turned to people pleasing and I settled in life, with no desire to try.

I was surviving, not living.

One day God gave me a revelation that filled me with perfect peace. A feeling that I had never felt before. I knew in that moment that He was all I needed. My life changed from that moment on.

I started living.

The Lord began a work in me that has continued to this day. I started praying with sincerity and a desire to have a relationship with Him for the first time.

He set fire to so many things that needed to go. He introduced me to Jesus. He became my teacher, my Father, and my friend.

I honestly did not know what I had agreed to when I got saved.

I did not know that I would become obsessed with reading the Bible, start going to church, throw my vape in the trash, and stop drinking completely. I didn’t know that my heart would change and that I would be given freedom and purpose.

I only knew one thing. One thing that becomes clearer every day.

God is all I need.

If He can do it for me, He can do it for anyone. Jesus loves you more than you could ever imagine.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or how far gone you think you are. If you draw close to God, He will save you. Remember,

God is all you need.

‘But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. ‘

1 Peter 2:9
